I felt pregnant at 21 years old...

June 25, 2018

“I felt pregnant at 21 years old and I had no idea what to do. I wasn't on any birth control prior to this happening, but I was sure that I would never become pregnant any time soon if I did what I normally would do. This all changed June 2016.

I had always had normal menstrual cycles, so I would know if something went wrong and one day it did. I was 10 days late on my period, and instead I only got implantation bleeding. I was in denial still. It took me another week to finally purchase a pregnancy test.

The first test I purchased was only $1.00 and I remember taking it at work on my break and it came back positive, I was so shocked and had to pull myself together to return back to work. I didn’t believe the results, I was still in denial. After work, I went to Walmart to purchase another one and that one also came back positive. I immediately panicked and then called my boyfriend.

I then spoke the words ‘I’m pregnant’, he was also in shock. We didn’t discuss much over the phone, so we met up later that day. During the time, we both lived with our parents, I went to his house and we discussed options. I told him what I think we should do and he agreed.

I called to set the appointment. 1 week later we went back and forth about other options, but we would always end with the same result. At the time, we didn’t have our own home and I was in my 3rd year of college. I decided to go through with the abortion, this was honestly the saddest thing I had to ever do,

I cried for days and weeks, but I knew I wasn't ready.

It’s your choice, always remember that. My boyfriend and I now have our own place, and I have graduated college. We are happy with our decision now, even though I still think about it time to time, it’s always good to have someone to talk to.

I'm happy that I was able to have control over my own body. I will now decide to have a child in about 2 years! Don’t be scared, just be strong. Everything will be alright.”  —Anonymous
