"I had never missed a period, and was so sure that I didn't want to be pregnant that I had an IUD put in at 22. A year later, I was a week late and I just knew. My boyfriend and I were devastated - we were both just out of school, and he was looking for a job. My doctor confirmed the pregnancy and that my IUD was still in place; she joked that I ought to buy a lottery ticket. She referred me to an ob/gyn who was said to perform abortions, but the ob/gyn had recently moved to a Catholic hospital, which ruled her out. By the time I'd had all the appointments and referrals, I'd used up 3 days of sick leave. I finally called the clinic and they got me in on a Saturday morning. Recovery was quick. My boyfriend and I got married and hope to have kids some day, when it's the right time." —Laura
