I was 16 when I first got pregnant...

"I was 16 when I first got pregnant. It was in 1967 so abortion was illegal. I just knew I would feel too guilty to give a child up for adoption but also knew I was not ready to be a mom and that I would never pursue my dreams if I had the child. I was desperate. I told my mom and she found someone for me that did abortions out of his home. I wound up in the hospital with bleeding. They asked me for information that I would not give. I so appreciated that someone kept me from having to finish the pregnancy. If I had to do it all over again, even if I wound up in the emergency room, I would. My life stayed in my control and things went well. Many years later, when I did become a mom, it was good and I was ready. No one should have to go through that - seeking illegal abortions. I fear that is where we are headed again. You don't make me donate organs to my own children. Why would you mandate that I carry a fetus?" —Bonnie
