"Legal abortion in Britain became available in the late 60's. We should never forget the horrors of the 'back street' abortions. There were many deaths following botched jobs. There has been no recorded deaths since abortion" became legal in Great Britain. I remember 3 friends who had traumatic experiences through unwanted pregnancies - one through a 'back street' abortion who bled profusely and collapsed in the taxi on the way home (fortunately she didn't die) and 2 who had to give up a child for adoption 6 weeks after birth! Following my TOP in 1972 I became a nurse myself. 40 odd years later (senior nurse practitioner) I now work as educator and facilitator in an organisation providing safe terminations for the hundreds of thousands of women who cannot proceed with their pregnancies." —Anonymous
